Love is in the air!

Love spells, rituals, and charms offer a touch of enchantment that transcends the ordinary. With The Practical Witch’s Love Spell Deck: 100 Spells for Passion, Romance, and Desire, author Cerridwen Greenleaf blends the mystical with the modern, inviting you to harness love and breathe desire into your daily life. The pocket-sized deck features 100 cards with spells, rituals, charms, and more, along with a 48-page pocket guide. As Cerridwen writes, “Love is the highest magic of all,” and within this deck, you’ll find a number of ways to harness the magic of love in your life.

Before we move forward, let’s take a moment to remember that love takes many forms. While romantic love may first come to find, “love can be for friendship, family, pets, spiritual love, and the very important one from which all else springs: self-love.”

With this in mind, we’re pulling some of our favorite cards, along with excerpts from the companion book The Practical Witch’s Love Spell Book: Rituals to Invoke Passion, Romance, and Desire, so you can have a Valentine’s Day to remember, regardless of your relationship status.

Self-Love Comes First

To invite the magic of love into our lives, we must start with self-love, which is why we recommend starting with this love spell.

This card invites you to relax and take deep breaths while wishing happiness for yourself. After a moment of grounding, speak the following mantra out loud:

May I be happy.
May I be well.
May I be safe.
May I be peaceful.
May I be at ease.
May I be content.

The card suggests you continue this practice until you are filled with self-love and compassion. The same ritual can be used to send love to another by replacing the “I” with “you.”

Add to your daily rituals or use whenever you need a reminder that you deserve happiness and unconditional love!

Love Altars: Your Magical Power Source

Now that we are grounded in self-love, let’s explore some other cards in the deck.

Altars are a constant work in progress, changing with the seasons. The Love Altar card offers a chance for you to “sanctify your love” through this powerful altar creation and dedication.

“An altar is a place of power––your personal power––where you can make magic,” writes Cerridwen Greenleaf in The Practical Witch’s Love Spell Book. “It should be an expression of your deepest self, filled with artifacts that hold personal resonance.”

You can create your own Love Altar with red and pink candles, incense, Victorian violet and rose essential oils, and any other special artifacts or meaningful symbols that resonate with your desires.

Once you feel ready to dedicate your sacred space, speak the following out loud:

I light the flame of desire
I fan the flame of passion.
Each candle I burn is a wish
and I come to you as a witch.
My lust will never wane.
I desire and I will be desired.
Harm to none, so mote it be.

Rose Quartz: Love in Mineral Form

Now that we have our magical power source in place, the Rose Quartz card offers some information on how you can turn to crystals for love.

While there are so many crystals that can be harnessed for love, rose quartz is where it all starts:

“If you have no other crystal, make sure to have rose quartz on hand. It infuses you with self-love and brightens ‘the vibe’ anywhere it is…Widely known as the stone of unconditional love, the soft pink hunk of love known as rose quartz is said to attract and inspire love in all forms.”

Keep your piece of rose quartz nearby. Place it on your love altar as you work through the spells and incantations found within the deck. Take it with you when you spend time with a loved one or as a reminder of someone you love.

Sending Love From Afar: A Long Distance Love Spell

As I work with the deck and write this blog post, a particular card sticks out to me: “Sending Love From Afar.”  As someone in a long-distance relationship, I am always open to new ways to feel connected to my partner. Beyond my romantic relationship, I have so much love for friends and family who are far away. While we have many ways to connect in the modern age, I love the idea of doing something tangible and spiritual.

Start with your love altar, and place a photo of your beloved or a symbol that represents them. Surround it with a small bell (the Mini Magic Bell is the perfect choice) and a vase filled with their favorite flowers, or “flowers of fortune” such as pink daisies or red roses. Write your full name on a piece of paper, then speak this incantation:

On this earth and under these stars
I call upon the gods and goddesses
to bring us together and good fortune
and the energy of love to
(your friend’s name).

Ring the bell to conclude the incantation. Distance can make the heart grow fonder, even more so with a little love magic!

More Spark-Inducing Ideas

Now that we’ve walked through just 4 of the 100 cards found in the deck, we’re going to share a few excerpts from The Practical Witch’s Love Spell Book.

This hardcover companion adds further depth to each of the pocket-sized deck’s cards, along with even more ways to manifest your love connections and relationships.

With Valentine’s Day in mind, here are a few excerpts worth sharing:

Food of the Gods: Chocolate Brownies

This is one of the easiest recipes for brownies you will find anywhere. So yummy!

½ cup flour
1 cup sugar
⅓ cup cocoa powder
½ cup salted butter, melted
2 eggs

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a nine-by-nine-inch baking pan.

Make the brownie batter: In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and cocoa powder. In another small bowl, whisk together the butter and eggs. Add the egg mixture into the flour mixture, stirring until just combined.

Bake the brownies for 25 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Cut into sixteen squares and serve, perhaps à la mode.

Heart Wreath

Don’t wait until Valentine’s Day to try this; love should be 24/7, 365. What better way is there to invite love into your home than by hanging a wreath full of love herbs on your door? Any combination of these will work beautifully; I recommend using herbs and flowers that personally resonate for you among these options: allspice, clove, catnip, fig, bleeding heart, periwinkle, tulip, peppermint, violet, daffodil, lavender, and marjoram. Adorn with pink and red ribbons to let the universe know you’re ready to welcome love into your love.

Kama Sutra Kiss

The kiss is the gateway to bliss and amorous experience. The kiss provokes erotic ardor, excites the heart, and is an incitement to the natural gift of yourself that you share with your beloved. Think of your kiss as an offering of enchantment. The following is a list of actual Kama Sutra kisses:

  • Bent Kiss: the classic movie-style kiss where lovers lean into each other
  • Turned Kiss: one kisser turns up the face of the other by holding the head and chin then kissing
  • Throbbing Kiss: the woman touches her lover’s mouth with her lower lip
  • Pressed Kiss: from below or underneath, one lover presses the lower lip of the other lover, who is above, with both lips
  • Touching Kiss: the woman touches her lover’s lips with her tongue and eyes and places her hands on her lover’s hands
  • Greatly Pressed Kiss: taking the lip between two fingers, touching the lip with the tongue, then applying great pressure with the lips upon the lover’s lips in the kiss
