RP Mystic’s Guide to Pisces Season

Pisces Season usually occurs between February 18 and March 20 each year and corresponds to the 12th zodiac sign of the year. During this season, we’re invited to embrace our emotions, our feelings, and our subconscious world. In her book Signs & Skymates: The Ultimate Guide to Astrological Compatibility, star West African astrologer Dossé-Via Trenou writes of this zodiac sign: “Of all the zodiac signs, the energy of Pisces is the most challenging to encapsulate in words…just when you think you’ve understood Pisces, they shape-shift into another form, another entity, a completely new vibe. And they want to flow with that vibe without having to explain it. Pisces rules the supernatural, and they themselves can be viewed as supernatural forces of nature.”

Here, we’ve gathered enchanting correspondences to meaningfully embrace Pisces Season.

Get to Know the Pisces Fish

Since every zodiac season presents an opportunity to dive deep within yourself, let’s start by understanding the cosmic creature associated with Pisces: the Fish. Mystic Mondays creator Grace Duong shares the distinctive traits of the Fish in her deck Mystic Mondays: The Cosmic Creatures Deck: A Deck and Guidebook to Connect to the Wilderness Within.

FISH: Fertility, Subconscious, Health

The fish swims into our subconscious when we need to pay attention to what is lurking beneath the surface. Water is an element associated with emotions and the depth of feeling contained in your soul. If you dive deep enough, you may be surprised by what you find…Like the womb, water nurtures, allowing flow and providing sustenance for growth. Water is home to the feminine, and the Fish acts as a messenger of the Divine Mother…Fish support their communities, traveling together and united as one in schools. The Fish encourages you to seek support and bond with your community as you pursue your soul searching. They can remind you of your truth, as you swim closer and closer to the depths of who you are.

The Astrology of Pisces

Modalities and elements help us understand the behavioral energy and temperament of each sign. Pisces are known for having “mutable-water sign” energy. To understand what these aspects mean for Pisces Season, we turn to Grace Duong’s Mystic Mondays: The Astro Alignment Deck: A Deck and Guidebook for Celestial Connection.

Pisces is a Mutable Sign
Versatility, Flexibility, Adaptability

Within each season, we move through three modalities: Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable. The Mutable modality occurs at the end of each season. Pisces has mutable energy, representing the last few weeks of winter. This transition from the end of one season to the beginning of another means that Mutable signs crave options and variety. The ever-adaptable Mutable signs can shift in order to suit whatever environment they’re in. Pisces are known to adapt through their own imagination.

Pisces is a Water Sign
Refreshing, Mysterious, Fluid

All four elements—Fire, Water, Air, and Earth—are represented in each modality. “The element can indicate the temperament and nature of the person with that sign and inform on what other zodiac signs they get along with best,” explains Grace Duong in the Astro Alignment guidebook.

Pisces is represented by the element of Water. “Water signs move with fluidity, intuition, and emotion. They have the ability to merge with others and truly understand what they are feeling.”

Like a sponge, those with Pisces placements tend to absorb the emotions around them, making it important to set boundaries and take time to distinguish between their own emotions versus those that are channeled from others. “Water signs’ depth gives them powerful healing abilities, but they must discern emotional truths and be careful not to spiral down a dark hole. Once that discernment is strengthened, they can dive deeper into their emotions without getting lost.”

Explore the Tarot Card for Pisces

All zodiac signs are ruled by a tarot card from the Major Arcana. The Moon card is associated with Pisces Season. Let’s explore the meaning of this card with Queer Tarot: An Inclusive Deck and Guidebook created by queer and trans artist team Ash + Chess.

The Moon card from “Queer Tarot”

The Moon, XVIII
ILLUSIONS, DECEPTIONS, FEAR

The moon has a dark and deep energy that is a powerful, reversed version of the Sun’s. Its eerie yet magical beams subtly edge their way through the dark of night as they light your path, but there are fears and doubts inside of you that are holding you in place. Although deception and illusions are present with the Moon, you must hold fast and remember that you are in control. You may be afraid of what’s coming next, but don’t let that uncertainty take over your life. Take this card as a call to look your fears in the face. Get to know them––conquer them, even. If you are feeling anxious or weary about a situation, don’t make any sudden moves––the Moon signifies unstable and amplified emotions, which can sometimes interfere with making the right decision. Sit with this uncertainty and wait. Get to know yourself, the root of your fears, and confront them. By the time you are finished, you should have more information about the situation at hand and you will be able to move forward in your intended direction. This card does not have to be a negative card. The Moon encourages healing, but to do so you must face whatever is weighing you down and keeping you from being your best self. And remember, your intuition can be your handiest tool when deception is afoot.

REVERSE: You’ve spent some time worrying and feeling anxious, and those negative energies are finally receding––you feel like you can at last realize the impact these negative thoughts are having on your life. This is liberating for you. However, recognize that while illusion, anxiety, and fear can be limiting and hold you in place, they are still emotions that deserve to be dealt with. This can be a warning that you’ve begun to push any negative feelings inside, which will just cause them to resurface later. Listen to your inner voice and trust that you already have all the tools and answers you need within you.”

THINGS TO CONSIDER: Freewrite anything that is on your mind right now, and don’t hold back. What did you uncover? Destroy the paper afterward if needed. Single out a fear of yours and say it out loud––imagine it leaving the small chamber of your brain and entering the vast and infinite universe, where it can get lost.

Tap Into Essential Oils for Grounding & Comfort

Lean into the sensory experience of Pisces season by supplementing your self-care rituals with beneficial essential oils. Experiment with these recommendations, courtesy of Cerridwen Greenleaf’s Essential Oils: A Little Introduction to Their Uses and Health Benefits.

[Note: No matter how delightfully scented, please remember that you should never ingest any of these oils. Be careful when working with essential oils; use them in conjunction with carrier or base oils so that they do not irritate your skin. Even diluted, we suggest that you wear clean cotton gloves when preparing oils and do not get the oils in your eyes.]

Clove: Clove is a strong and spicy oil. Use it in protection spells to shield yourself from unwelcome energetic fields, which is much-needed as you swim through the waves of Pisces season.

Neroli: Neroli is known for its regenerative qualities. Made from the blossom of a bitter orange tree, neroli can help you overcome fear, anger, worry, and panic. Use neroli in a diffuser to help you work through any feelings that come up for you.

Cedarwood: Known for its soothing aroma, cedarwood can provide protective energy for the home. We love using cedar wood in a diffuser or in a homemade room spray to help soothe and protect.

Bergamot: This citrus oil has the vibe of an orange oil, helpful in lifting the mood and alleviating stress. Keep bergamot on hand for when you need a little mood boost.

Lemon Balm: Pisces are emotional creatures. Lemon balm oil can help calm emotional distress, lightening the heavy feelings associated with grief, loss, and sadness. Make a rollerball with a carrier or base oil and rub on your wrists or behind your ears whenever you experience those heavy feelings.

Rose: Rose oil is mostly used as a fragrance that can relieve tension and elevate your mood. It’s also known to be useful in love spells and energy management rituals. Use it in a diffuser or a homemade room spray!

Harness the Power of Crystals for Pisces Season

Pisces Season invites you to process your feelings, which can be a heavy process. Here, we suggest four crystals to remind you that as you ride the waves of emotions, there is always something there to keep your head above water, courtesy of The Crystal Grid Deck: An 80-Card Deck to Charge Your Intentions by Mystic Mondays creator Grace Duong.

Amethyst: Protection, Trust, Intuition
Amethyst is a powerful crystal that can protect your energy field, a crucial trait for those with Pisces placements that tend to absorb the energy around them. Meditate with amethyst to promote peace and tranquility, allowing the violet rays to “stimulate your soul!”

Pink Fluorite: Guidance, Ease, Comfort
Pink Flourite invites you to come home to your true self by helping you stay present within your body, accept each moment for what it is, and detach yourself from any particular outcomes. Meditate with a Pink Flourite crystal to receive “a surge of comfort and confidence that you have what it takes to make it through life’s challenges.”

Blue Lace Agate: Peace, Gentle, New Beginnings
Blue Lace Agate is “your supportive nudge in the right direction, whispering words of encouragement when you experience self-doubt.” Meditating with this crystal helps to open up your throat chakra, easing anything blocking you from expressing yourself to the world. It’s a reminder that your feelings are valid and important. Release any fears of judgment or thoughts of inadequacy, viewing every day as a new beginning.

Pink Halite: Self-Love, Replenish, Cherish
A natural form of mineral salt, Pink Halite is known for cleansing toxins from the aura and replenishing your energy field. Keep this stone with you to “make choices out of self-love, honoring the highest version of yourself and trusting that you will make decisions for your highest good.”
