William Goldman in his entertaining memoir, Which Lie did I Tell?, tells an anecdote about adapting David Baldacci‘s Absolute Power to the screen, to be directed by Clint Eastwood. He agonised for months over the multiple characters in the book and the fact that one of them, cat burglar Luther, dies part of the way through, which presented him with a problem as Clint Eastwood wanted to play not the detective hero of the novel, but the bad guy himself.

Do yourself a favor: turn off the CNN and pick up “Absolute Power” by Baldacci. This was Baldacci’s first novel and it’s worth a re-read…
