Just yesterday, I finished reading David Baldacci’s “Last Man Standing.” The story is about a Hostage Rescue Team member who finds himself almost alone after an unexplainable event happened during one of the rescue operations.

David’s novel The Simple Truth is reviewed in a post titled “The Simple Truth” on Jon’s Book Reviews blog.
The Simple Truth
is another winner. Even though I know in the abstract that most novels will end happily, a good author can make me wonder. Baldacci pulls that off admirably, providing an effective balance between predictability and surprise.

David’s latest novel, Stone Cold, is reviewed on the Open a Book Club blog.
It is not a must to read these two prior books by David Baldacci – The Camel Club and the Collectors – but I think it would help you follow along with the story. The author has created some very interesting characters for this novel and the reader will learn to like them…

The audio version of David’s latest novel, Stone Cold, is reviewed in an article titled “Try Some Sci-Fi on Your Earphones” in the Providence Journal [Rhode Island]. The audio version is read by former Rhode Islander Ron McLarty.
Baldacci weaves the strands of his plot flawlessly, with an attention to detail and character that set this book above the normal run of Washington thriller. McLarty, the actor-author who grew up in East Providence, assists with a fine set of accents (his Irish brogue for Annabelle’s father, Paddy, is particularly good) that let listeners easily distinguish among the many characters.

David’s Camel Club series is appreciated in a post titled “Welcome to 2008” on Kim’s Bookshelf.
David Baldacci’s books are fun, but I must say that I have especially enjoyed his “Camel Club” series. In 2005 Baldacci wrote The Camel Club about a group of 4 Washington D.C. misfits who witness a murder and are drawn into political intrigue. The suspense is well written, and the story is great, but it is the group of characters that make this more than your average thriller.
